I was in no inspiration to write once I returned to London
after the winter holidays. My term II started by submitting an essay for one of
the seminars as well as a registration for term II. It followed by two
weeks of helping out Phase II students with their final presentations, and it
was no difference as if it was my studio - no sleep and etc. but I was helping
out my friend.... Nevertheless, AA DRL Phase II presentations were fantastic as
they were the last to conclude a theme of Parametric Urbanism III. I
actually wished to be a part of the urban polemic. The students dealt with
various parametric systems, complex and interconnected
urban conditions, synthesizing macro [urban] and micro
[architectural] scales. As I found many of these students entered AA with no
knowledge of latest software and scripting techniques but
demonstrated and manifested various schemes, concepts and
solutions. The critics panel consisted of the following
people Jeffrey Kippnis, Patrick Schumacher, Neil Leach,
Ali Rahim, David Erdman/Clover Lee [davidclovers], Donald Bates,
Christos Passas, Theodore Spyropolous, Marta Male-Alemany, Tom Barker,
Matias del Campo/Sandra Manninger [SPAN], Alisa Andrasek [Biothing].
It was good to immerse for these two days of review as it gave me a good idea
what I will go thru next year. The dialogue was intense and provocative,
hilarious and inspiring. I wish Kipnis was my uncle as he would crack
some architectural jokes during Christmas time, on
a serious note - it was a good exposure to some good conversations. .... And a week later, I chose a studio and got into
Patrick Schumacher's and I am very pleased; but prior to that failed miserably
in my workshop III [it is a first in my history to have a bad bad
project]. But I guess it happens. But I quickly redeemed myself in my current
tutor's eyes. I am starting to be really excited with a topic in my studio and an
upcoming trip to Vienna and I like my team - we are a bunch of talented
[mfkrs]......
